Rocker Slash's Mom Died

Costume designer Ola Hudson, who made outfits for the likes of David Bowie, John Lennon and Ringo Starr but is perhaps better known as the mother of former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, has died after a battle with lung cancer, a longtime friend said. Hudson died at Saint John’s Health Center in the Los Angeles municipality of Santa Monica on Friday evening, according to Arlett Vereecke. She was 62. In addition to Slash, 43 – whose real name is Saul Hudson — she is survived by another son, graphic artist Albion “Ash” Hudson, 38, as well as her ex-husband, English artist Anthony Hudson. In a Twitter message late on Monday, Slash said he was back in the studio working on a solo project, “but I’m having a hard time concentrating.” His mother dated Bowie after her marriage broke up in the mid-1970s. ”I really didn’t like him that much, because he was the new guy in the house,” Slash said of Bowie in a 1990 interview with Rolling Stone magazine. “I was really resentful.” Funeral arrangements were still being finalized.

He has let people know his mom is black. He was even on that HBO special recently, The Black List. RIP to his mother.

I've always known Slash was biracial, but I had it in my mind that his dad was black, though.

RIP Ms. Hudson.

And peace be with her surviving family.

His daddy must have been an albino!

From the beginning of Guns-n-Roses Slash talked fondly about his parents. He never hid it.

What an interesting and beautiful mom! Slash was very blessed to have her for 43 years.

Slash has always publicly stated that he is black because his mother is black. He never hid his moms, read his autobiography. Slash was also on the HBO special discussing his fight w/Axel Rose for using the word nigger in a lyric. Slash stated he was pissed off and was going to hurt him if he did not remove the lyric.

May God bless you and your family. RIP to Ms. Ola, I knew about her for years. A very beautiful Sister. I lost my Mom 3 years ago today, September 3rd. I find myself saying, Mother I miss you, it's OK, Mom's never die, they live inside of us. I can still hear my Mother speaking to me, I hear her laffing and singing. Listen to Ola inside, Mothers guide their children. You are loved and blessed.

I'm a very sad to hear about the passing of your mom. I also had no idea you were half black. WOW!

As if we need to explain ourselves.....the black gene is in every human being...like it or not the root of civilization began in Africa...so white people get over yourselves...and stop being so shocked about the notion that there is greatness in black too!

I am almost 60 years old and did not know that slash was black. I think that the British accept mixed relationships and families, where in some other parts of the world it is a taboo. I also think that the type of musice that he has played made me just think that he was white. I rarely have seen a bi-racial person not have any color to them. But I can see his mom in him when he smiles. I also think that he probably is not asked about being black because he is so light....Sorry to hear about mom .... memories will keep her alive in your heart. Glad to hear that his family is keeping his children's heritage alive in their lives. I just watched him on guitar center. He is bad guitar player.
