Where are all the Black Models?

NAOMI CAMPBELL has claimed the advertising business is using the recession as an excuse not to use black models.
The 39-year-old supermodel said in this weekend's The Sunday Telegraph: "This year, we have gone back all the way that we had advanced. I don't see any black woman, or of any other race, in big advertising campaigns."
Of Vogue Italia's Black Issue Campbell said: "That made some noise but, unfortunately, we are the same as before. People, in the panic of recession, don't dare to put a girl of colour in their campaign, full stop."
Fashion designer Bruce Oldfield has supported Campbell's sentiments, adding: "It's absolutely true that black models will not be as popular for advertising companies and magazine covers as white girls."

These are white companies, why should they hire black models? Stop looking for hand-outs from whites who don't give a damn about blacks in the first place. Start your own.

um... since when is a JOB a handout? gimme a break already. these white companies deciding not to hire black models is not only racist as hell, it's a slap in the face. they're essentially saying a black face is not as marketable as a white one or will not sell as many magazines. the fact that this still happens in THIS day and age is PATHETIC. and it's not about a damn handout, it's about WORK! learn the difference between the 2 before you speak.

^^^I think it's more than that..models are often displayed as beautiful and desired, and in any aspect of the entertainment industry they only allow one black woman at a time..like for the longest it was Naomi Campbell..and then Tyra..then you look at the music industry..it's like only one black woman is allowed mainstream appeal at a time..I wonder why that is..

No models - white or balck - get used anymore. It's all about the celebs. Damn, Beyonce & Rhianna are the faces of armani, cover girl, loreal, etc.

The day of the supermodel is over. Celebs have taken over that gig. It's a shame too, because the celbs saturate the market and we get bored of their asses really quickly.

Naomi is right--black models are a second thought, if that, to the fashion industry. Black people buy their clothes, read their magazines and patronize their advertisers, but they seldom use black models and, even worse, they rarely portray black people in a flattering way. Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Tally can kiss where the sun doesn't shine. Thank goodness things change with each generation. Until things change properly, I hope Naomi and others continue to raise hell.

Beyonce is no longer a model for Armani, she just got drop by the newest face in the business Megan Fox, of course she is white. Naomi knows what time of day it is, she been in the business for years. SMDH

They (being black models) want a job given to them even though there is no market for black faces. That is a handout. There are no jobs available for black models selling white products. Like the no blogger posted, they use one at a time! Get it, got it, good!
