The new owners of Soul Train, from left to right, Anthony Maddox, Peter Griffin, and Kenard Gibbs
Several artists pulled out of the Soul Train Music Awards and the word buzzing amongst the execs was that there was a deliberate attempt to sabatoge the show. Basically the Soul Train brand is owned by some newcomers including Kenard Gibbs who used to run Vibe Magazine and old rambling Don Cornelius is an unhappy camper and made some noise. Basically LA Reid and Babayface backed out of an appearance even though they were honoring LaFace records. Usher also backed out. There were others.
Soul Train was owned by Don Cornelius for years. He created it; it was his baby. Later in his life he made some poor choices and had lots of debt and began leveraging portions of ownership. Eventually this caused him to have to sell it all together. As an example, all of the Michael Jackson footage from Soul Train, he no longer owns, so when MJ died, the new owners benefited whenever people needed to use MJ soul train footage. Don was pissed. But he is not the owner anymore. So the real problem is the new owners are running up against some folks in the industry who felt they should be able to exert some influence into some things (The Soul Train Brand) that they have not been allowed to exert that influence upon. It has trickled down to folks taking sides. Like I said, politics pure and simple. I could say more. I'll leave it there. I hope this all blows over in a year or two.

That's a damn shame. Don F'ed his money off, had to sell and now as the nerve to be pissed!! Ain't that a bitch. If that's the case he should give the money back or better yet, should not have gotten himself into the position of not having ownership.
Them the breaks.
Dude's name is Peter Griffin? Really? Family Guy anyone?
Don try'n 2 whip on somebody when he needs 2 B kick'n his own self N da A$$. I don't care what kind of money problems I ran N 2. I would NOT take out a pay-day-loan on "THE SOOOOOUUUUULLLLL TRRRAAAAIIIINNNN!! If I was Don I'd B piss'd 2. HELL YEAH! I'd flex my music muscle & F UP their show every year for the rest of my life.
Purposely messing up someone elses show because you can't deal with CHOICES that YOU made will have Ms. Karma knocking on your door.
Don needs to just accept the fact that back then he did what he had to do with what he had and instead of being bitter, he could do something else besides getting arrested. Tyler Perry said it best that as Afro Americans, we have to OWN things.
Tell Don Cornelius to have a coke and a smile and shut the f*ck up.
Oh, my bad, that line was meant for Bill Cosby.
C'mon, you really think Don carries that kind of juice today?
People were pulling out because half of them were never in. That's gonna be an embarrassing show and those that know better don't want to be in the train wreck.
Don should be pissed, who knew he was such a poor business man...served him right!!
Im sure the new owners would do a great job. They are trying to improve the show nd make it hip again. The new owners are hip and young, they will make Soul Train a staple for Saturday tv viewing.
