Ne-Yo: 'Rihanna Assault Was Unacceptable'
R&B singer Ne-Yo is backing a campaign against domestic violence with a new song, "Heroes." Ne-Yo is donating proceeds from the single to the nonprofit organization Respect!, which aims to end abuse and promote respect in relationships.
While introducing the song at a listening party earlier this week, Ne-Yo cited last year's infamous incident between Rihanna and Chris Brown as a reason for teaming up with the organization. "What happened between Chris Brown and Rihanna was unacceptable, and we need to all work together and make sure it never happens again to anyone", he told the crowd.
“It’s unfortunate that it took an incident like that between Chris Brown and Rihanna to occur for this issue to gain awareness. This song is about being a hero to your significant other,” he added. “Coming from a home where there was domestic abuse going on with my mom and my dad, it struck a nerve with me so I wrote this song.”
