Mary-Kate Olsen doesn't relate to her childhood as a "little monkey performer."
At just 24, Mary-Kate Olsen has had to face more challenges than most other people her age.
In an interview with Marie Claire, Olsen says she finds it difficult to relate to her childhood as a "little monkey performer."
"I look at old photos of me, and I don't feel connected to them at all," the actress says in the magazine’s September issue. "I would never wish my upbringing on anyone... but I wouldn't take it back for the world."
Despite going on to become a multi-millionaire thanks to her TV, film and merchandising empire with her sister, Olsen has also had to battle an eating disorder, check into a rehab facility and have her friendship with Heath Ledger scrutinized after his death.
Rather than be envied, the former child star says her friends "feel sorry for us... because it's kind of bittersweet."
Now, the pint-sized mini-mogul, who successfully runs three fashion lines with her twin, says she has learned to ask for help when she needs it.
"I think it's really important to be able to talk when something's wrong," she tells the mag. "I learned at a really young age that if you don't talk about it, it can drive you insane."
She credits her twin, who she calls her other half, as her biggest support.
"Sometimes Ash and I have to bring each other back, or push each other more," she says. "It's really helpful to have another half; we're constantly checking in with each other."

I love these 2. I'm glad she or should i say they got it together, and didnt lose all their money and didnt get strung out on drugs, I know they do drugs but knew better to not let it run their lives, gooooo marykate and ash.

they did so much drugs 3:54 pm that they supplied heath ledger with the best dealer and coke mix that finally killed him. i like how that scandalous tid bit was virtually erased from the media or how she was the first person his house keeper called instead of the cops, i hardly call that not letting it run their lives.
