A teenager who strangled his younger brother has said he was inspired by the TV series Dexter.
Andrew Conley told investigators that he identified with the character from the hit TV series about a police forensic expert who moonlights as a serial killer.
The 17-year-old told detectives that he had wanted to kill someone for years.
He said his urge to commit murder was like someone who was hungry and had to eat and had he had also fantasised about murdering his father.
Conley told police he had been messing around with his brother Conner when he locked his hands around his neck.
He told police he strangled the 10-year-old with his bare hands for 20 minutes to make sure he was dead.
He stuffed his body in a rubbish bag and dumped him in a park near their home in Rising Sun, Indiana, and later drove to his girlfriend's home where they watched a film.
Conley confessed to killing his brother saying he had an uncontrollable urge for murder and wanted to model himself after the TV serial killer Dexter.
In a court affidavit he said: 'I feel just like him'. He also likened his urge to kill to someone craving a hamburger.
The hit TV series stars Michael C Hall as a blood splatter expert working for Miami Police who also doubles as a serial killer dispatching his victims in a grisly way.
Hall won a Golden Globe for his portrayal but the show was criticized in the U.S. for its violent theme by the Parents Television Council.
Lawyers for Conley had expected to claim he was insane at the time of the killing last November.
But on the opening day of his trial Conley changed his plea to guilty.
He faces a minimum of 45 years in prison, but prosecutors who have described the teen as 'just evil' plan to seek a sentence of life without parole.
Prosecutor Aaron Negangard: 'It's disturbing that a 17-year-old would want to kill under any circumstances, let alone his own brother.'
He described Conley, who will be sentenced today as 'emotionless' when he was interviewed by police.
This is the second murder that was allegedly inspired by Dexter.
In 2008, a 29-year-old Canadian man Mark Twitchell mimicked a storyline from the drama when he allegedly killed 39-year-old Johnny Altinger.

That kid told the truth he was mentally ill for years and his parents didn't go out try to seek help for his fascination with killing and oh well he killed his younger brother.
I don't blame the show Dexter I blame his parents who probably saw him displaying homicidal behavior as a tot when he got his present age well he killed his younger brother.
I blame the parents for not getting him help.
Too many murders and child molsters display there tendencies as a small child and parents ignore them and society becomes the victim and in this families case there younger child and his own brother was the victim of his illness.
That white monkey needs to be studied there is something in his genes which was activated which caused him to be fascinated with wanting to kill someone.

Wow, with good behavior, this dude will be out in 20-something years...still very much capable of killing again. The justice system is anything but! They'll keep non-violent black offenders in jail 'til their dead, but give 45 years to a confessed murderer. Wow.

He's not your average serial killer.. the people dexter kills deserve it.. this 10 year old boy did not deserve this..no one should kill anyone.. he needs mental help right now and i bet he always had a few screws loose..
This kid hasn't been dealing with a full deck since he popped outta the womb. His parents just chose to ignore it. Some sick parents think abnormal behavior in a child is cute. "oh little timmy will grow out of it." Yea right. He basically already admitted he's a budding serial killer, but all they wanna give him is 45yrs? If your child is in your home talking about he craves murder, common sense would tell you to take his ass somewhere to get some help, right?! How and why do folks place the blame on factitious accounts on TV? Dexter assholes, really?! Carrot top looks insane, and it's really sad that his parents were obviously in denial. Not only did they lose one child in death, but another who will probably be locked up for life for causing the death.

It's not just Dexter. It's almost everything on tv-that promotes violence. I do agree his parents had some idea but chose to ignore it. Dexter goes home at the ned of the show. This asshole won't.
