Mario Arrested for Assaulting His Mother

R&B singer and his mother get into a bit of a tiff.

R&B star Mario has been arrested for allegedly attacking his mother and leaving her in fear for her life.

The singer, real name Mario Dewar Barrett, is accused by his mum Shawntia Hardaway of twice attacking her at her home in Baltimore, Maryland.

She told police that the first time her 24-year-old son 'pushed her eight feet into a living room wall, where Ms. Hardaway hit her head on the wall', according to police documents.

She was then found crying after police arrived to a 'mental case breaking up property' at her apartment, and she told officers he had again pushed her.

'When this officer asked the victim if she fears for her life in reference to her son's actions, the victim replied 'yes',' the officer wrote.

Mario, who was once in Dancing With The Stars, is charged with one count of second-degree assault and was released after posting $50,000 bond.

The star and his mother have had a rocky relationship - largely because of her admitted heroin addiction while the star was growing up.

In 2007 they starred in an MTV reality TV special where Mario arranged for an intervention to get his mother help.

In the show, 'I Won't Love You To Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom', he told her: 'Growing up without a father was hard for me, but it was even harder growing up with your mother struggling with drugs and addiction.

'I never understood why you would spend so much time in the bathroom and leave the house for days and fall asleep during the middle of the day. I didn't understand that at all.

'I love you so much - But I won't love you to death.'

The rapper and singer is best known for his 2002 hit Just A Friend.
