Taylor Swift wins 'Songwriter of the Year' at the BMI Country Music Awards.
TAYLOR SWIFT became the youngest ever winner of the coveted Songwriter of the Year prize at the BMI Country Awards on Tuesday night (09Nov10).
The 20-year-old singer/songwriter was the toast of the awards show, which celebrates the most played songs on U.S. radio and television, and took the night's top prize, making her the youngest artist ever to land the coveted trophy.
The record was previously held by Bill Anderson, who won the honour in 1960 at the age of 23, and Johnny Cash, who won in 1956 when he was 24 years old.
Swift also scored her third consecutive BMI Country Song of the Year title for her hit track You Belong With Me, making her the first songwriter to win the prize three years in a row.
The Love Story hitmaker took to the stage and paid tribute to a close friend, whose funeral she attended just 24 hours earlier, telling the crowd, "It’s been a really emotional week."
Billy Sherill was named BMI icon at the ceremony and a host of country stars including Ronnie Dunn, George Strait, Martina MCBride and Faith Hill paid tribute to the record producer.
Other songwriters honoured at the ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee included Keith Urban, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Sugarland's Kristian Bush and Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum.

That whole THANKS KANYE FOR HER SUCCESS thing is old. She was winning awards and selling albums before him. Obviously the way the whole issue started was when she WON AN AWARD! I do not get it, I do not like her face or think she can sing. But it is what it is. NEXT!
Why do people keep handing this girl awards?! Songwriter of the year are you serious. Eveyone single one of her songs sounds the same and there always about the same subject. Did she really deserve album of the year last year? I say HELL NO but for some reason she won it. I'm being honest I don't think I've seen a more overrated artist in quite some time. I mean I just don't get it. I don't think I'll ever understand white America and their fixation with non talented pop singers.

She sold over 1 million albums in her first week, now if that is not support tell me what is. I agree with the concept of what Kanye said, not what he did last year. For a artist that puts so much into their art, why can't they two have over a 1 million sales in their first week too? We all knows when Beyonce puts out music/performs she gives her all, why can't we support her two like how Talyor is being supported. Let's get Beyonce over 1.5 million sales in her first week, as it it well deserve.
Rhianna is not the best singer/performer, as Taylor is not the best singer but Taylor do have a much better people of supporters.
