Victoria's Dark Secret

Victoria's Secret fashion show only uses darkskin models for 'Wild Things' segment.
You gotta give it to Victoria’s Secret for giving the $2 million bra to Brazilian model Adriana Lima for the most watched runway show on the planet. But for the rest of the show, they seemed to feature models of color in interesting situations, including ones that had them parading around performers engaged in what’s supposed to be indigenous dance.

The Victoria Secret Fashion Show, which aired last night on CBS, opened with a complete line up of light skinned models.

While dark skinned models were sprinkled throughout the show, they seemed to have lined them up so they could all be part of the “Wild Things” segment of the show.

This year’s show, called “A Night of a Thousand Fantasies,” included six different themes said to represent different types of women; tough love, game on, country girls, heavenly bodies, pink and wild things.

Yes, wild things… the segment that included tribal dancers and all the models of color in the show. Just pay close attention to the line up of models in the opening and closing segments. Let us know in the comments if you notice a difference.

@ 12:oopm--the average woman can't wear any of that shit, so don't feel bad. All those bishes R fembots!

Maybe. But some white women cant pull off "tribal" just like some black women cant pull off "silky, straight hair"

WTF...just like some black women cant pull off "silky, straight hair"

LET ME EDUCATE YOU...all black people can press their hair silky straight - whomever, told you that lie needs to be shot. I've styled hair both processed and natural for over 10 years TRUST ME it can be done.

why any black woman would strive for 'silky, straight hair' is beyond my comprehension.

But I digress.

2:03 you are so dumb! That comment totally went over your head.

HUH WHATEVER! said...

lol @ 2:47 it sure did..why we always got to act like someone else other than ourselves?

SMH @ The Internet "professor" (aka 2:03). Key word being "some," but I guess that was besides the point.

I suppose the purpose of this post was to detect some racial undertones w/in this show full of stick figures, but I don't see it. Just more overpriced shit for women to spend their hard earned coins on so they can wear it for all of about six seconds before their man rips that shit off anyway...

The show is boring anyway so I didn't waste my time to watch it..

I O No it could have been some stereotypin but yeah I'd think black women and other darker skin women would be able to pull of the wild thing look better than other women.

But even if it was a stereotype I think it's one that can backfire because it's makes them seem more exotic.
The jungle has lions tigers rare beautiful birds etc.and rare beautiful people

Who cares! remember when the models had meat on them. No thigh meat, bone like asses, and ribs showing is not sexy. Someone please throw 20 pounds on these bitches. Back in the 90s they all had some meat on them.

the racist thing is that you can count on one hand the # of black models & still have fingers left over. SMH

FYI some women choose to straighten their hair for convenience. It is just easier to style. It has nothing to do with race or identity issues for the majority of people that get it done. So please knock off all of this trying to look like this or that crap off. Some women get braids for the same reason, they spend less time styling their hair after they have the braids done. It is just a choice and not really a big deal. Just like selecting the clothing that you wear. People wear whatever they want based on their taste. Do you go around yelling at people that are not attired in traditional African dress? Are they trying to look or be like someone else? Or is it because they said hey this is what I want to wear and then they wore it without consulting public opinion first?SHOCKING.

I find it hilarious when people feel as if black women have to prove their blackness to them. For the most part it is not that deep.

I am a black woman with naturally loose, curly hair that is long. I can blow it out to be straight or air dry it to be curly. I can't bitch because I have the best of both worlds and I will not hate on other women of color who may desire the same. If you bought it, it's yours. It's also your choice to be short and natural or dye and press if you so desire. I can't count the times people have asked me -- both black and white -- whether my hair was "real". It is but if it weren't, it's no one's business but my own.

tHANK U 9:29 AND 10:22! NubianGoddez and anon. 8:57 ya'll soundin bitter & insecure as hell. Don't nobody wanna hear all that shit! Bein a Black woman, a REAL Black woman, comes from within. Like 3000 sed," is every brother with gold for the fall?is every brother with dreads for the fall?" Our integrity, strength and wisdom passed on from greats like our mother's mother mother & Sister Tubman is what reflects what & who we truly are. All that cussin reflects major ignorance. To paraphrase what Malcom sed, "a person who uses profanity has a very small vocabulary." Then ur throwing alot of insults at women of other races as argument as to why we're better than them. FALL BACK AND DONT GET BACK UP TILL YOU CAN REPRESENT US APPROPRIATELY.

thanks 10:23. some folk dont like to think that racism applies to any1 other than black ppl, but if ur demeaning any1 b/c of of their skin color, whether theyre black white or purple, thats saying that they are somehow inferior b/c of the way they were born and thats, drumroll please, racist. we're never going to progress towards a state of human unity if we cant stop falling into the same old traps. wake up. our choices in hair, clothes, and what not may b effects of institutionalized marginalization 4 some folks, but they are not the causes so in the end they dont matter besides helping us find out why all cultures are still not allowed equal access to the standard of beauty--in educating ourselves on that, we can fix it & move on.

Nothing to see here folks, truth be told we are all tribal. And the bit that I saw seem to reflect that fact besides if any "tribe" should be pissed off by this display it should be the Maori and the like since it appears their "tribe" was heavily borrowed from there and there wasn't one Maori or Maori like woman in there that I saw.
