Teena Marie was on the Verge of a Big Comeback

The death of Teena Marie couldn't have come at a worse time.

R&B singer TEENA MARIE was on the verge of a show business comeback when she died the day after Christmas, The ENQUIRER has learned.

The 54-year-old vocal powerhouse - who was born Mary Christine Brockertand was a protege of the late funk legend Rick James - was found dead on Dec. 26 at her Pasadena, Calif., home by her 18-year-old daughter.

Teena Marie, one of the first white artists to be signed to Motown Records, is best known for her 1984 hit song "Lovergirl" and for a collaboration with Rick James titled "Fire and Desire."

She had been battling back from two grand mal seizures and was looking forward to playing her first date - a New Year's Day performance at Atlanta's Fox Theater - since her medical setbacks, when she died, a close source told The ENQUIRER.

"The seizures were really bad," divulged the source. "She'd broken two ribs after falling during one of them."

Teena's body was discovered by her daughter.

The talented singer fought a yearlong Vicodin addiction after the death of former flame and musical mentor Rick James in 2004.

I hope her daughter benefits if there is a resurgence in purchasing her music.

does anyone's death come at a "good" time?

Anybody who says Beyonce is better than Teena Marie has no clue as to what good music is. Teena Mari is one of the last true singers that we lost.

"Teena Marie, one of the first white artists to be signed to Motown Records,"...

Teena was a diamond in the Motown family, but not one of the first white artists. Motown signed a number of white artists, including Rare Earth, a rock band back in the late 60's.

Lady T was a bad woman. Helluva singer and musician. I hope her daughter is entitled to ALL mommy left for her and have no one around her trying to con her out of her benefits, etc. She is still so young to be here without her mother.
