There will be fewer Hip Hop and R&B winners at the Grammys next year.
Though music industry vet Steve Stoute and Recording Academy president Neil Portnow vowed to work together to increase diversity at the Grammy awards -- as a result of Stoute's claim that the awards were "losing touch," it looks hip-hop and R&B artists are losing again.Jacked from The Boom Box
The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences made more than 30 modifications to the awards on Wednesday, April 7, a move which Stoute has referred to as "a step in the right direction, but still a Band-Aid on the problem."
On the contrary, the newly restructured Grammys will be cutting down the amount of hip-hop and R&B awards, eliminating gender distinctions in the R&B categories and merging Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance for a Duo or Group into one category.
By consolidating the male and female R&B awards, they have cut the number of R&B awards presented by half, ensuring that, despite Stoute's claims, hip-hop and R&B artists will be walking away with even fewer awards next year.
Meanwhile, the classical and American roots music genres have had an equal amount of categories trimmed without the support of a former industry heavyweight, losing four awards in each division.
At the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards earlier this year, Jay-Z won for Best Rap Performance for a Duo or Group for his work alongside Swizz Beatz on the track 'On to the Next One.' Eminem won Best Rap Solo Performance for 'Not Afraid,' a song off his Best Rap Album win, 'Recovery.' According to the recent change in awards categories, only one of the two would have walked away with a golden award under the new revisions had the new categories been put into effect this year.

Frankly they can eliminate all genre's since everytyhing is just pop anyway.....
WHO THE HELL WATCHES THAT BULL SHIT ANYWAY!
I'D RATHER WATCH PAINT DRY.
pop is sort for popular , there is no genre of music called pop, your waste if you dont like certain songs because others like them making them popular
the music industry has gone to hell, so I could care less. real talent is rare these days, it's all about tits, ass, abs and wannabes. most everybody else has sold out, so they can cross over into popdom and get that white audience.
Cosign with 6:06 and I don't watch thegrammys n e more n e way and I have a feeling I'm not the only one...grammys r now on the level of bet and mtv awards!! #EpicFail
Well, well, well...
a grammy = more Sales for the artist. In the end it will hurt the genre of music overall. If you remember, they never wanted to have a rap category broadcasted or otherwise at the grammy's in the first place... anyone remember Will Smith's boycott? This is just another slap in the face for the genre. Whether you like the music or not (I don't listen to it anymore), Rap has much like Rock and Roll is one of the few genre's of music that has changed and influenced not only American but World culture. Rappers need to do better and stop buying Bentley's and flossing and try to save and grow the craft. jus' sayin
That's why all of the these "black" entertainers are doing pop and techno.
I'll tell you why "RAP/HIP HOP" is being slimmed down to nearly no existence...it's because this BS "rap/hip hop" they call music today isn't music it's crap, and it's starting to infect their youth as well(but it was okay to seduce, infect ours aka Nicki M. & Lil Wayne) and yt don't know what to do about it. They don't want a repeat of a boycott so they completely trashed what we knew as hip hop until we could no longer stand to listen to it ourselves. Now it will be an easy transition to get rid of it totally. Well I say good ridden to it. d(-_-)b *Agnt99*
