Vogue Italia Names Rihanna Woman of the Year

Pop star Rihanna honored by Vogue Italia

Beside arousing curiosity among the readers (mostly interested in finding out who ranks last rather than first), charts also have the unarguably aseptic quality of numbers and figures. Everything and everybody is quantified, categorized and eventually measured up against a scale of values. At Vogue.it, we have decided to leave this sterile pastime to the guys at Forbes and went straight to the core of the matter by voting her woman of the year. Who is the lucky one? There is no point in beating about the bush: it’s her, Rihanna, once a rising star of the r’n’b scene, she is currently the undisputed best contender to the role of queen of pop. You might wonder – wasn’t that supposed to be Lady Gaga’s title? Not, quite

In terms of popularity and fame, as of now Rihanna has stolen Lady Gaga’s Facebook fan-collector crown outsmarting the blond rival by a staggering one hundred-thousand fans (to be completely honest, on Twitter Gaga is still the winner with 11 millions fan, but we are sure Rihanna can catch up).

Independent, energetic, the jewel in the crown of Jay-Z’s stable who helped her become such a huge success, the young Robyn Rihanna Fenty (only 23) is our woman of the year and not just by virtue of numbers and figures but also, and foremost, for her kind and fighting spirit. The same spirit that brought her from Barbados to the top of the music charts achieving a career which she has forged and mastered completely by herself (whose last move was to become the new ambassador for Armani).

Per aspera ad astra – read a Latin saying: nothing could fit Rihanna’s rise to success more perfectly. She has managed to cultivate her career despite the many tragedies affecting her private life: from her father’s addiction to crack (her manager until recently when she fired him in relation to the release of some unbecoming statements about her) to the violence caused to her in 2009 by the then boyfriend, Chris Brown.

Her career has always been based on the cunning use of sexiness and provocation: from the silver-nude number sported on the video of the hit single Umbrella to the “scandalous” video for S&M. Although her career has also been marked by her involvement in numerous charity projects: she has joined and supported campaigns for the fight against breast cancer as well as the fight against world famine but also offered her help to ill or less fortunate people such as the very young Jasmina Anema who saw the pop star on the frontline in the search for a bone marrow donor to save her from leukaemia – unfortunately in vain.

May Rihanna enjoy her well-deserved title as for us; we can’t but wait –impatiently – for her next brilliant music hit.

Woman of the decade in music? Please she's never even had a #1 album. Lady Gaga, Adele, Taylor Swift have all been in the game even less time than Rihanna and they're out selling her, both in album sells and digital sells. Rihanna has decent singles but woman of the decade?!... I thinks not

"Her career has always been based on the cunning use of sexiness and provocation"

In other words she relies on sex to sell her music POINT, BLANK, PERIOD!

Madonna has been there and done that

I'm starting to feel the same way about her as I do Beyonce. I'm getting sick of seeing her face and hearing her name. Is there only room for two black women in mainstream music at a time?...

I like Vogue Italia. They have a section for black women that's nice (http://www.vogue.it/vogue-black), but the U.S. Vogue will rarely put a black woman on the cover. Anna Wintour and Leon Tally are so out of date--she's an aging fag-hag and he's a sorry excuse for gay man.

10:17 please have a seat Rihanna sold 25 million albums her entire career britney spears sold 25 million copies of her first album alone! Rihanna has 10 #1's Gaga has been in the game 3 years less and already has 8 #1's and hers aren't full of features like rihanna's and she has way more followers on twitter as well and has accomplish a hell of a lot in far less time. And was named queen of pop of the decade by rolling stones. Taylor swift also has been in the game less time than Rihanna and has sold over 20 million albums and is the most digital downloaded artist in music history. Adele's new album is the most downloaded album to date and it came out this year, while loud was released last year which mean adele sold more in less time than Rihanna. Hell even Nicki Minaj was able to sell over 300,000 albums her first week (better than riri's best first week #'s) and Pink Friday went to number 1 which rihanna has yet to do. And getting a #1 album is actually harder to do than get a numger 1 single being as though no one buys albums anymore and buying an album cost more than buying a single.

"but no one has done what she has done from 2001-2011"

Don't lie to yourself Rihanna has singles but thats about it when it comes to record sales from 2000-2011 some artist have blown rihanna far out of the water don't make me bring out all of Britney's, Nsync, Eminem and many other artists numbers because their sells shits on Rihanna's

Oh and theres no hate here, I'm simply stating facts on you delusional stans.
