The on again off again engagement of Jesse James and Kat Von D is back on again.
As our beloved Church Lady would say, "Isn't that conveeeeenient?" I'm referring, of course, to the announcement that Free Clinic Couple of the Decade, Jesse James and Kat Von D, have somehow decided to reunite their roaming genitalia in holy matrimony after an acrimonious, tabloid-friendly split in July. This comes on the heel of TLC's decision to send Kat's show, LA Ink, back to the glue factory. Coincidence? These two aren't subtle enough for that. "Even as TLC announced the cancellation of LA Ink, Von D and Jesse James – who had called off their engagement last month – posted on Twitter separate photos of themselves locked in embraces.
James went a step further and added the caption, 'para siempre' – Spanish for 'forever.'
"In an interview with People, James made it official. The engagement is back on, and Von D is once again wearing her ring.
"'Sometimes you are only given one chance in life,' he says. 'It was up to me to open my eyes and see it. That girl is my chance. I will never stop fighting and striving to hold on to her. Showing her how special she is, and how much I love her.'" [via People.com.]
Anyone else buying this? Anyone? Bueller? Didn't think so. I love the TMI photo they posted on their respective Twitter feeds, though – in black and white, nonetheless – just in case we doubted the sincerity of their love. I would believe, from this photo and Jesse's sensitive man declarations, that he was deeply, profoundly in love if I knew he was capable of anything but self love.
Instead, I just see a publicity ploy to stay relevant now that the couple's last vestige of celebrity is hanging by a tattoo needle. If this wedding does, in fact, happen, grab a bucket of tabloid popcorn and settle in for the sideshow. Because you can bet your last royalty cheque that this mess is going to be all over the media.
