Stores can't keep Mary Kate and Ashley's $40k backpack on the shelves.
Not everyone shops on a budget!Jacked from Us
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's $39,000 alligator backpack had no problem flying off shelves, The Row designers tell Women’s Wear Daily.
"It was the first thing that sold off the shelf," Ashley, 25, said at the Paris launch of their new handbag collection September 30. "During our last economic crisis in the U.S., the only thing that went up was Hermes."
Despite its hefty price tag, Barney's Fashion Director Amanda Brooks sees the luxe backpack as an investment.
"If you were ever going to spend $39,000 on a bag, that's the bag you should buy," she told Fashionista in July. "There's enough design to make it interesting and beautiful but they truly are classic bags -- and I think you also might be the only one who has it."
Tell Us: Would you spend $39,000 on a backpack?

I'm obviously doing something wrong with my life if I can't design a fucking BACKPACK that flies off the shelves at 40k a pop!
This is an abomination. All that money for a fuckin backpack?? No matter how rich these 2 women are, they are unhappy & miserable as hell.
LOL @ 7:21 cosign. Hell I'll design one for half that and be pleased as punch with the profit.
For $40k you could hire someone to carry your stuff
An "investment"..really? No, a home is an investment, a 40 thousand dollar backpack is a waste.
If i had 40 thousand to blow, I think I would do something like bring working wells to remote villages in africa.
Its disgusting to waste money like that! why would a bag from drug up, eating disorder twins ever pull that kind of money in this economy! HELL NAW!
Ok really somebody must be lying saying this bag is an investment child please quit playing.
