B-Style Takes Over Japan

B-Style or Black Style is the new craze taking over Japan's youth.
B-Style, a trend that celebrates African American pop/hip-hop culture, has young Japanese gals rejecting conventional practices of preserving the pallor of their skin for weekly trips to the tanning salons, braids and other accoutrements of hip-hoppery.

metropolis Web TV states that folks who dig B-Style – short for Black Lifestyle – “want dark skin like American hip hoppers,” and put the spotlight on a young lady named Hina who’s the embodiment of the popular trend. “Black people look so great and stylish,” she said while watching a scantily clad vixen in a hip-hop music video. “When we wear it, it looks vulgar, but not with Black people.”
Hina works at a trendy Tokyo boutique called Baby Shoop. Their tagline is “Black for life.” The hip-hop admirer considers the shop to be a “tribute to Black culture and also to their music, fashion and dance.” Hina admits, “Part of B-style is that you do not look Japanese. “While rejecting aspects of mainstream beauty standards, namely the glorification of pale skin, these young women make it a point to darken their skin not just appear sun kissed, but to emulate the deep brown hues of Black women.“All of Baby Shoop’s shop girls do deep tanning,” the narrator claims, including Hina. The B-Style maven said her affinity towards Black American culture began when her hair started to get frizzy in high school, while flipping through Source Magazine she said, “Then I looked at Black artists, and I found them very cool.”

Well I be damned!! Its cool though, blacks have emulated Japanese for years (hair,nails,knock offs). Soo its only rite that the love is ReTuRnEd!!

What irks me about this is they want to dress up as black people but they don't want to BE black people. Of the videos I've seen of Japanese mocking black culture none of them know a black person. There aren't a lot of black people in Japan but the same goes for Japanese in the US. They love hip hop music, dance, and clothes but will avoid black people like the plague.

What black people do you know emulated Japanese? Black women were doing the crazy nails way before the Japanese. The hair is knock off of white people. Knock-offs are more known from the Chinese black market. The only thing I can say that's been emulated is the Hello Kitty and the dumb idiots that dress up like school girls.

Your correct. Actually here in Colorado one actually said blacks are animals. Koreans say the same thing. I promptly beat her a$$.

I don't play with any race of females especially non-black females. They emulate everything. Hell they use the "n" like it's a badge of honor. Blacks irk me using the n word.

It's been like this for at least the two decades I have been traveling to Japan. We are emulated and celebrated worldwide. Much more so than at home. Maybe knowing this will make us love and respect ourselves more?

Well I have mixed feelings about this because I've heard orientals do sometimes show respect to blacks, especially if you can speak their language. However, the rachet truth is, everyone wanna be a nigga til the police knock on their dooor. I'll say this. I realize there is racism against blacks in Japan but if its actually all just a good spirited copying of a style they admire and not tryna diss the culture, I'm alright with it.
@ 11:18 am: Huh ? Why are you in Colorado anyway ? Blacks folks be skiiing now ? Also , you hurt the cause more than you helped it. Beating someone up just cause you don't like they said about you is juvenile. That lady was wrong but still, it's not what people call,you its what you respond to.

Well I for one find some of the way those women wear in those vids offensive. I don't want my body covered in tat, all those piercings, and an ass that's big enough to place a 52 inch t.v. on it.

AW THOSE GIRLS ARE TOO CUTE. I RENTED A ROOM ONCE TO A YOUNG JAPANESE GIRL AND I FOUND HER VERY NICE, VERY FRIENDLY & LIKEABLE. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH JAPANESE PEOPLE AND I AM BLACK. I HAVE MANY MORE PROBLEMS WITH CHINESE & KOREAN BECAUSE THEY DO NOT LIKE BLACK PEOPLE OR AMERICANS FOR THAT MATTER.

@ 1:01 Pm : Ohh, you were raised there. It's still odd though, only black folks I thought was in Colorado were ones in the NBA or NFL.Ever since Kobe got in trouble, I thought black people didnt go to Colorado. Learn something new everyday. Anyways, you seem a little too hot headed to listen to reason. Its cool though, babe. We all have them days. You have yourself some hot chocolate. You'll be ok.

I am ex-military and I traveled around the world. Japanese people are very cultured people and easily western influenced. For decades black people around the world have been celebrated except for this country. In Europe and places like Amsterdam there are statues of Louie Armstrong and other famous blacks. This is why Josephine Baker, Richard Wright, Marvin Gaye and several noted blacks flocked to Europe. Till this day, the rock icons like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles give credit to black people for their contributions. I hardly know not one rock or American band that has given credit to black people for their contribution of culture and music.

Which is my point, if we are given credit and respect for our culture, contraptions and music, that is a good thing. The bad thing is that here in this country...our country we still cannot get total respect! I say cool to Japan and YES, I even listen to a Japanese rapper here in Oakland/Berkeley called Shing02 who is cool as hell!!!

SPREAD LOVE, NOT HATE PEOPLE! TRAVEL AND GET OUT AND SEE WHAT IS BEYOND YOUR WORLD/COUNTRY AND OPEN YOUR EYES!

Maybe you need to visit i can show you around. You will be amazed. Majority of the black families live North/South East of Downtown Denver.

History: Phillip Bailey from (Earth Wind and Fire)is from Colorado. He was in band with my oldest brother.

Kobe Bryant is an idiot! Black people in Colorado know Vail, Eagle, Ft. Collins, and Boulder are racist. Majority of the NFL/NBA players live in Centennial or Downtown Denver.

I'm only quick tempered if pushed. Oh i don't drink hot chocolate but you can have some for me. I appreciate it.

Ummm...I thought Phillip Bailey was from St. Louis here. Maybe he moved and grew up in Colorado?
These girls look like fuckin' idiots. I wonder if black women with the silky hair down their back look as rediculous to white people as these japanese girls look to me.
*shrug*

@ 6:32 PM : Well I don't know bout that madam. Ma told me not to trust friendly female strangers on the internet. Even ones that come bearing cocoa and fun times on the Rocky Mts. I will do some snowboarding in Aspen someday. You all most had me though. Nuggets tickets would've done the trick.
PS: You don't drink hot chocolate ? Missing out lady. Really missing out.

Niggas is everywhere. EVERYWHERE! Why is someone surprised that a Black person would live in Colorado? I guess y'all just think Jewel Sarah Palin and the Ice Road Truckers are the only ones (ethnic wise) living in Alaska too huh?

Actually I was being sarcastic. A friendly post is all you get.

@10:20p.m
I'm trying to find out why would they think. We have always been here. The five points is filled with black history. Everyone who is black knows about the five points area. We do exist in Colorado.

@11:29 PM: Sure you were. Anyways, Colorado is one of those states where if you you find black folk there, you're surprised.It's just not widely known outside that area that black people reside there. It's not as surprising as if you had said you're black and from Montana. Also, its not widely heard of for bruhs and sisters to live in places where the climate is like Russia or Iceland. I just don't/ didn't think black people migrate or move everywhere on the globe, especially if it's cold there.Next you'll tell me you're....one of them. (vegetarians).
@ 10:26 PM: Good luck with that. That is all.

@10:26 pm

Japanese men for the most part aren't checking for black women. I'm not saying don't take an interest in a Japanese man that seems interested in you. Just saying don't get your hopes up.

Umm ppl read and travel open ur minds. there is an old japanese saying that a great samuri should have at least one drop of black blood. I read that in a book years ago translated from japanese about the history of the samuri. the moors went everywhere way before the europeans

How many of you actually leave your own country and do some REAL observations instead of passing on hearsay?
