The Queen of Pop had invited her on stage as a guest vocalist at the family American football event — the most watched programme in US history with 111.3 million American viewers.
A source said: "Madonna wasn't impressed. She prides herself on professionalism.
"M.I.A did nothing similar in rehearsals. Nobody knew she was going to pull this stunt.
"Madonna wanted to put on a world-beating performance. But everyone ended up talking about this girl's middle finger."
M.I.A, of Mitcham, South London — famous for her hit Paper Planes — was singing on the track Give Me All Your Luvin', off Madge's new album MDNA at the Indianapolis show.
A source close to M.I.A — real name Mathangi Arulpragasam, blamed the finger gesture — on "adrenaline". The source said: "She wasn't thinking. She was caught in the moment and she's incredibly sorry."

This was a great move on M.I.A. part.
This was a desperate and disgraceful move on MIA's part. MIA is not, and will never be, a household name so she took this opportunity to try to get world-wide attention. MIA was Madonna's GUEST. Instead of being a gracious guest, she tried to steal the show. MIA should have been grateful that an icon even knew who her nobody ass was and was willing to share a stage with her.
Everyone realizes MIA's motives and it will backfire. And worst of all, after this little stunt becomes past tensed and forgotten about (it won't go down in the memorable interruptions of "Imma let you finish, but"...or "Wu Tang is for the children"... or Janet's wardrobe malfunction) MIA will go back to being a little known nobody.

I love Madonna but girl you only mad because M.I.A. was the talk of the show and she clear upstage you. And we aren't going to even get into that professionalism mess.. Madonna carry on with the promotion!

Well I dont like corspe bride bitch (Madonna) but I would be kinda mad if I reached out to a unestablished artist and allowed them to get on stage with me, then they used the opportunity to just promote themselves. It may sound like hating but at the end of the day, its professional protocal. If I'm at the BET Hip Hop awards, performing with an established artist. I'm not going to use the venue as an opportunity to drop a better verse than the other person (not intentionally). I can do that on my own shit anyway.It's just me showing respect for them giving me an opportunity when they could've said "Fuck that nigga. I'm doing the song by my damn self." Besides I really don't think anyone really knows that much about MIA outside of England. The last time I even heard about thid chick was when "Slumdog Millionaire" came out. She's a little too old to really be trying to still make it as a serious artist at this point in her life. I dont want anyone over thirty still trying to spit rhymes at me. Not to be sexist, but it really looks bad when female is doing this. MIA should be at home talking care of her youngins.

Karma is something...Madonna was throwing shade at janet all week leading up to this performance. No professionalism in Madonna's behavior, speaking bad about another performer very catty. Madonna used Janet's mistake to bring more attention to her super bowl performance that was wrong. I wasn't impressed with Madonna's performance she looked like an old lady bouncing around. She almost fell at least 1x and had difficulty getting up off the floor once. I loved the rest of the dancers and performer especially the gospel performance.I loved the Eygptian theme.
