Mel B Cuts Her Mother Out of Her Life

Spice Girl Mel B's mom hasn't had contact with her in over three years.
As Mother's Day dawns tomorrow, it will be a painful reminder for Andrea Brown.
It has been three and a half years since she was allowed any contact with her daughter, former Spice Girl Melanie Brown.

In an interview she told how, in November 2008, she was cut off from the singer and her daughters after she questioned whether Mel's new husband, Stephen Belafonte, would get on with eldest child Phoenix Chi, now 13.

Andrea, 56, made no secret of her disapproval when Mel married a man who was once given probation for attacking the mother of his child and who, in 2007, admitted bludgeoning a duck to death with a brick.

Her relationship with her daughter is now unrecognisable from four years ago, when she was given the honour of cutting the umbilical cord at the birth of Mel's second child Angel.
The pair were once so close that the singer would never go more than four days without phoning her mother, but now any time Andrea tries to call, Mel and her husband change their numbers.
Heartbroken Andrea told the Sun: 'Half of my family is missing to me. Every day I pine for Mel, Phoenix and Angel.'

She has never met her youngest granddaughter, six-month-old Madison, and says she probably never will.

'I only found out she was pregnant because of Twitter and I found out on Twitter that she'd had the baby too.'

And it's not just Andrea who has suffered from the family's breakdown - Stephen has also reportedly banned Mel's father Martin, 58, and 31-year-old sister Danielle from speaking to her or the children.

Things came to a head while the newlyweds were renewing their vows in Egypt, having married in secret in Las Vegas in 2007.

Phoenix was staying with Mel's family in a hotel in London when she confided in her grandmother that her new stepfather Stephen had threatened to throw her out of the house when she turned 16.

Andrea said: 'I took Mel to one side at the end of the holiday and told her she need to sort it out. I didn't say to leave him, just to sort out the relationship between them.'

When word got back to Stephen, he told Andrea she would never see her grandchildren again.

She said his furious phone call was so nasty she could not bear to relate the whole conversation.
Mel's sister Danielle tried to phone Stephen back, and he even turned his anger on to her daughter Mimi, who was in hospital recovering from an operation.

After one last attempt from Mel's father, contact was severed for good. Since then, even Christmas presents for the children have been rejected.

Mel will learn the hard way family bond can be hectic but he does sound a bit abusive. Mel probably won't see the bad until her money stop flowing.

There's always three sides to a story. I'd be interested to hear Mel's and Stephen's side of things.

Also, I don't think airing details in the media will help the situation at all (even though this story seems to be from May 2011).

My goodness, her mama look like an on-the-dole, from the council-estate, three packs a day with a beer for breakfast coal miner's daughter. I can see why Mel B is such trash. I'd hate to see the father.
