Taylor Swift Sells $1 Million First Week

Who says the record industry is dead? Taylor Swift goes platinum first week.
Taylor Swift’s latest record “Red” is set to sell over 1 million copies in its very first week, released Monday, October 22nd. Industry insiders say the newest album by the pop country songwriter moved over 500,000 copies on the first day and was estimated at 900,000 Thursday evening. Final numbers could exceed 1.1 million copies as she will top the Billboard Top 200 albums. Nielsen SoundScan dates from Monday through Sunday for a sales week.
Target is the exclusive retailer for the deluxe edition yet again which contains 3 bonus tracks and 3 demos of songs on the album. The retailer says about 160,000 copies were sold on the first day and iTunes could account for about half of the sales. Other retailers like Walgreen’s and the unlikely Papa John’s Pizza will also be counted in the final numbers. Papa John’s Pizza promoted the album with her album cover on boxes, having a sale of a large pizza with “Red” for $22.

CDs with PIZZA? I'm not even mad at her marketing team. Every cd counts.

The only good thing about this is it shows labels and artists that people are still buying music if they believe it's worth it. I can't stand the fact that ALL of Swift's music is about guys --that doesn't send a good message to little girls-- but at least she writes her own music and isn't scantily clad. Adele and Taylor are showing that you can keep it simple and wholesome and sell big. THAT'S powerful.

Maybe Cici should've sold her CD with Popeyes when that rumor was going around...lol

I agree 100%. Country music is borderline brain dead. You have to dig in the crates to find good country music that was mainstream back in the day.
Country music is just pop with a 'twang.
