Charlie Sheen believes his ex wife Brooke Mueller only wants custody of their sons to finance raging drug habit.
Lawyers for Charlie Sheen headed to court in Los Angeles on Wednesday to keep his twins under the care of ex-wife Denise Richards amid claims that money has motivated their mother Brooke Mueller to seek alternative arrangements.
Mueller, 35, has been trying to have the four-year-old twins Bob and Max stay with her brother while she receives rehab treatment for drug abuse at The Betty Ford Centre near Palm Springs, California.
Sheen has contended that the move is a ploy by Mueller to maintain access to his $55,000 monthly child support payments.
Richards, 42, has text messages in which Mueller made it clear that she wants the monthly checks, according to a report by TMZ.
Mueller's lawyers were expected to counter that Richards has assumed custody in order to gain financially.
Sheen reportedly has offered to give Richards more money for taking care of the twins while Mueller remains in rehab, but she has politely declined.
The Anger Management star also pays $55,000 a month in child support to Richards, but offered to pay more. Brooke's current stay in rehab is her twentieth attempt to get clean.
The twins were removed from Mueller's care earlier this month when police responding to a report that she had attacked a man found her in an inebriated state.
The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services removed the children from Mueller's custody and placed them with Richards.
Mueller was put under a three-day psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center and later enrolled in rehab.
Richards is the mother of Sheen's oldest two children Sam, nine, and Lola, seven. She also has an adopted daughter, Eloise.Jacked Radar Online

Why can't Charlie take care of his own damn kids? Oh yeah that's right his ass is probably still on drugs too.
@ 2:19 PM.....you hit the nail on the head. He's a functioning addict himself and really don't want to be bothered with them. He already knew what Brooke was doing with the child support money a long time ago. I feel so sorry for those kids.
