Steve Martin Apologizes for Racist Tweet

Actor Steve Martin apologizes for posting a racist Tweet about African-Americans.
Steve Martin apologized for a racist joke on Twitter Friday night, then quickly deleted the tweet and continued saying he was sorry.
Martin was bantering with Twitter followers and turning their grammar questions into jokes when he was asked “is this how you spell lasonia?”
His response: “It depends. Are you in an African-American restaurant or at an Italian restaurant.”

Martin apologized and deleted the tweet, but screen shots and angry, disappointed reactions ricocheted around Twitter all evening.
Martin then expressed contrition again, tweeting that “I did apologize. But again, a second later I realized what an offensive thing I’d done.” He answered another tweet that told him “in retrospect, bad joke” with the response “Yeah, I learned that.”

Hmmm of course this is how they talk about us behind closed doors, but now they fell comfortable saying it in the public media.... But then quickly to retract, especially when then are aware that it may impact their career's. Shameful/ indeed! Boycott! Really it should be BLACK LISTED!

I didn't find that shit racist at all, lets face it some of our people name their kids some fucked up names, my daughter had a friend named shalalalequia I mean for fucks sake, imagine any employer trying to pronounce that shit. we clown yt folks when they do dumb shit, so we can't be sensitive when we do dumb shit. I didn't read that as being mean spirited or racist. let's not be oversensitive like the gay's who you can't say shit about see what I did there, grow up!!!

His behavior not surprising at all. He's not playing a banjo for sport.

Well, like I say, if you're gonna be racist, be an honest racist. I'd rather have someone come out and say how they really feel as opposed to smiling in my face and calling me "nigger" behind closed doors.

Having said that, I still think folks are becoming increasingly over-sensitive and butt-hurt over the smallest shit these days. It's like they're trying to make up for being marginalized in their day-to-day lives by being overly controlling, uber-PC assholes online.

is he saying blacks cant spell? or did he just want to hate on blacks for some reason ?

@ 10:15

He's saying Lasonia could be the name of a black female. Or it could be the Italian dish lasagna.

I do not find anything racist about the comment. If you do not want people talking about your kids names, stop naming them after cars, jewelry, colors, countries you have never been to, drug induced hazed names, spellings that you thought were cute, but in hind sight you see you really f---ed up, and last but not least, stop naming girls after their fathers and adding an A or E at the end thinking this make it cute. I will not name names, because I do not want to be labeled as a black or African-American racist.

I really don't think he meant to be racist. He is one of those comedians that is always ON with the comedy routines. I don't see anything in his past behavior to indicate he meant it to be anything other than that. Comedians, whatever their color, always referred to stereotypes of people...and ALL of us have laughed at the stereotypes at one time or another.
