Rutgers University Offers Course on Beyonce

Politicizing Beyonce is now a featured course at esteemed Rutgers University.
Beyonce is one of the world's most scrutinized pop stars, and now that study is moving to academia.
The Department of Women's and Gender Studies at Rutgers University, New Jersey, is offering a course called Politicizing Beyonce, which examines 'American race, gender, and sexual politics.'
Kevin Allred, a doctoral student who is teaching the class, told Rutgers Today: 'This isn't a course about Beyonce's political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama's inauguration weekend.'
The class supplements an analysis of Beyonce's videos and lyrics with readings from black feminists. Allred says he's seeking to help students think more critically about media consumption. His course will focus on the star who has number of alter-egos as a performer, role model, fashion designer, mother and wife.
'She certainly pushes boundaries,' Allred said. 'While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.' The lecturer will only assign readings by black feminist writers on his course, such as bell hooks, Alice Walker and Sojourner Truth.

Not sure if she deserves all that but, hey good for them. Not so good for the parents getting ready to waste money on something that can be read in a library.

Wow I bet the if Bey took the course she would fail considered she can't read or write and has 7th grade education. Also people tell what to say.

LMAO at Bey failing her own course. The course is a feminist course that will focus on other artists and writers as well. The professor will use writings from Souj. Truth and Alice Walker. So it will not be focused on onesies, booty bouncing, and high powered weave fans.

Education is expensive enough....then you throw this wasteful ridiculous bullshit in the mix. Maybe they're looking for an endowment from the carter-knowles camp. Good luck with that. Yonce` programmed sex kitten spreading her legs like a skripper AND black feminists, don't have any fucking business mixed together. Whoever is teaching this class is evidently a stan and an idiot.

That's pretty much half the hours of every major. I'm a Mechanical Engineer major and I was forced to take either a cooking class or an ethnic study class. I can find both a cook book and a Marcus Garvey book in the library, but hey, colleges gotta make money too, right?

A better course would have been on the Sumerian saga of Inanna and her sister Ereskigal and their revolt of patriarchy with Ereshkigal fleeing to the underworld with her consort Dumuzi and Inanna choosing to stay in the heaven's with Enki and Anu and them, also Lilitu aka Lilith and her revolt against a male dominated culture so much so she was branded a demon, because of her refusal to submit and demanding to be treated as an equal to men. these are the first feminist or matriarchal women who would not cosign patriarchies fuckeries. but seeing as though these western institutions of higher learning are not in the business to truly educate, beyond their outdated archaic indoctrinations I'm not surprised. I'm a Bey fan by the way, if they truly wanted to do a relevant course about her, then teach about her using the goddess energies including the ancient symbolism of the so called occult in her imagery and how its not been understood by most of the ignorant masses mind fucked in religion, who constantly accuse her of being some high priestess of baphomet and whatever fuckery they throw at her. now there is a worthy study of the duality and polarity of the goddess energies she channels.
