Actor Ben Affleck pressured PBS producers to censor his family's slave owner past.
Ben Affleck pushed to ensure his slave-owning ancestor was not featured on the PBS documentary series Finding Your Roots, leaked emails published on WikiLeaks reveal.
The emails between Finding Your Roots host Henry Louis Gates and Sony chief executive Michael Lynton show Gates' dealing with the issue of featuring the slave-owning portion of Affleck's past on the popular PBS program.
"Here's my dilemma: confidentially, for the first time, one of our guests has asked us to edit out something about one of his ancestors — the fact that he owned slaves," Gates' leaked email states. " Now, four or five of our guests this season descend from slave owners, including Ken Burns. We've never had anyone ever try to censor or edit what we found. He's a megastar. What do we do?"
The email chain is part of thousands of Sony emails revealed on the whistle-blowing WikiLeaks site last week.
Affleck is never referred to by name, but he is referred to as "Batman" and there is mention of talking to the "megastar" on a Detroit set where he was filming. Affleck shotBatman vs. Superman in Detroit.

That was dumb, own every part of your roots, you have no control over what your ancestors did, that was them, this is you. its laughable he didn't want that included, a large number of yt folks must face the facts at one point in history their ancestors owned slaves, hell even those dusty ass afrikans on the continent had ancestors who enslaved their own and sold them to various arabs, jews and white groups. own that shit, that's the only way we can begin the healing. why does he feel the need to hide what happened hundreds of years before his ass was even though of, get a fucking grip its called history for a reason.
