Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to an attempted weapons possession charge in a New York courtroom Thursday, in connection with a 2007 incident in which officers found a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic loaded gun in his tour bus in Manhattan.
The 27-year-old rapper, who expects to serve up to a year in jail, changed his original not guilty plea (which would have garnered him a three-and-a-half year sentence if convicted). His trial was slated to start Jan 20 before the plea was entered.
The problems aren't over for the entertainer just yet, as Lil Wayne is also scheduled for trial in Arizona on felony drug possession and weapons charges, after border patrol officials last year retrieved four ounces of marijuana, 41 grams of Ecstasy, an ounce of cocaine and a .40-caliber pistol registered to him.
The rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, won a rap solo performance Grammy last year; hit albums in his catalogue include Tha Carter, Tha Carter II and Tha Carter III.
Lil Wayne is free on bail and will return to court for sentencing in February.

this is sad, this fool had the world in his hands and gave up for foolishness. also its a sad state when our young black men see jail as an easy alternative. i see so many blk men say,"oh, i can do 1 or 2 yrs with no problems. " when did it become ok to be a fool.
