The Truth About Rock The Bells

jacked from a random message board
I was at the Rock the Bell concert on Saturday at Governor's Island in NYC. Lauren Hill was an HOUR LATE, but to be honest I didn't care so much. It's Lauren! I was just excited to see her since I'd been hearing such great things about her show.

sigh

I really want to write positive things about her performance, but I honestly cant. I've seen some online comments on twitter and face book indicating that she's still got it.................LIES I tell you!!

Her performance sucked...it was sucktastically BAD and I'm still sad about that. I saw her years ago (pre-Rohan days). I know she'll never get back to that. I realize that...BUT I don't expect her to SUCK!

Now she just reminds me of crackish Whitney. She sang super fast and pranced back and forth. There was NO connection with the audience...at all. The band played fast. Each song was like a "name this tune" game. The sound was just that "off".

The highlight of the evening was when she brought out A. Keys, Swizz Beats, Jay Z, Beyonce, Chris Rock and MJB. The crowd threw up the "Roc" for Jay...again this was the HIGHLIGHT of Lauren's set.

What most people don't realize is that Chris Rock was at the show, standing at the side of the stage from the VERY beginning of the concert, but when Lauren came out, he left the stage. She had to call him out to get him back.

Andre Harell walked right pass me...he was LEAVING with this asian chick. I never realized how short he is. I'm five three...he can't be more than two or three inches taller.

People all around me were talking badly about her performance. Comment from dude next to me, "See how crack fucks you up?!" All round me people were saying "wack", "horrible"...and/or leaving.

Yesterday Talib Kweli was on twitter going in on the DC fans who were mad because she didn't show up (I heard she showed up super later with Nas though). He kept saying that we should just excuse her. How long can we keep doing that though????

IF THIS IS TRUE ( AND I THINK IT IS....)

LAUREN HILL NEED WOMEN IN HER LIFE!

BY THAT I MEAN WOMEN SHE CAN TALK TO AND WHO COULD HELP HER...NOT WOMEN IN THE "ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS EITHER BECAUSE THEY ARE JUST AS "LOST" AS SHE IS.

FAMILY OR CLOSE FIRENDS FROM CHILDHOOD,
MAYBE SHE NEED TO MAKE A "CONFESSION"...THAT HELPS TOO..JUST TO BE ABLE TO "CLEANS" YOUR SOUL.

I was wondering why was Beyonce, Ak and other celebrities there and why would she use there fame. I love Lauren have not seen anything that she has done lately but she does not need to connect herself to other celebrities right now but just need to work on her craft. They did throw Whitney back out there way too fast well and now look at her. Now people know that her career is over and that her talent now really sucks when all she needed was some time and good advertisement.

That is true.

I've been saying from the get go that this "come back" was weak. Her live shows do remind me of present day whitney houstan which is sad. Like Lauren said in her own song "how you gonna win, when you ain't right within"- Lauren needs to get it together ASAP!

Lauren needs to stop listening to people. She's back out there, b/c that's what her fans wanted. Maybe the stage is not where she should be in her life. No matter what she does, people will always have something negative to say about it. They want their L-Boogie back, well maybe she doesn't really want to be back on that level anymore. I'd rather see her stress free, raising her kids, doing what she loves, and singing if she feels like it. She's made a lot of mistakes, had major heartache and the stress of fame all over again isn't something she needs. Get well Lauren and do you.

Saw her in DC Metro Area (Merriweather Post Pavilion) the next day, and I can attest that what the original poster described is spot on. Nas joining her on stage was the only thing that save an otherwise bad experience....this is sad because I really love Lauryn...and was pulling for her to do well.

I don't think Lauryn is on drugs, I think she has a mental problem. I wouldn't be surprised if some post partem depression was also a factor with 7 kids. As far as the band some celebs go to these sort of fests to twirk their band before doing real concerts. Maybe she needs some time to work everything out.

Lauren Hill? Oh, I thought this was about Lauren Conrad on the Hills. Nevermind.

Lauren has 5 kids. The other kids neices and nephews. Also, she needs JESUS and leave that voodoo/ witchcraft island shit with Rohan. Who is STILL married to his HIGH school sweetheart with 2 kids. She is a HYPROCRITE- preached one thing and did the EXACT opposite. Kinda like Eryka Badu.
I font care what anybody says, different daddies, and baby making with married men is NOT cute!!!!!

i just don't understand why people can't spell this woman's name right after all these years. it's L-A-U-R-Y-N!

& all these people who were riding her jock about making a come back are the ones to blame. she wasn't trying to come back to the industry. she was busy having kids. people kept begging for lauryn's return. there you go!

I'm just glad she didn't stay in the industry and let it fuck her mind up even more. Clearly she had VERY LOW SELF-ESTEEM to be messing with 2 MARRIED men (Wyclef, then Rohan), made Wyclef think she was having HIS kid when it was actually Rohan's, yall know the rest. I wish someone like MJ would have gotten out of that god-forsaken
"entertainment" biz before it was too late. Lauryn's most important priority is her kids, not spitting a sick verse or singing like she did circa '99. TMOLH will always be a classic. She has a special place in music history and that's all that matters. Sorry for the excited fans but TOUGH!!! Celebrities shouldn't live & die for yall.

I was at the Governor's Island show (NYC). Chris was NOT there the whole time. He came out when they were setting up for her performance. The crowd noticed him and applauded/screamed for him.

I sat through a bunch of people I really had no interest in seeing (namely KRS-One) and wasted all my damn energy waiting for her to come out only for her to do remixes of every fucking song. I walked away after that. I didn't want to be the the mass of people and honestly what she was giving was not worth my exhaustion. I'm from the DMV and specifically went to the NYC show because I figured she would flake on the DC show. I love that woman's music more than most but it was not worth the trip at all.

I agree with you I love Lauren but if that is true the they are all another Alicia Keys because that was a shock in the beginning. Eryka Badu gives me the impression that she is a freak and far from what she was singing back in the day. Lauren seem like someone who lost her way and too caught up in the Bob Marley legacy thing.
