The reality TV star was initially reluctant to showcase her singing voice, but took on the project after encouragement by the 'Power' hitmaker, recording the track, 'Turn It Up' with producer The-Dream.
She explained: "OK, I'm not a singer, this isn't what I do. I have too much other stuff going on. And Kanye was actually one of the people who really talked me into doing it and telling me, like, 'Hey, look, what do you guys do for fun? You guys go shopping, you go to the movies.
"Kind of step into our world for a second and have fun."
Kim, 30, added her song is not the start of a full-time pop career, and that The-Dream became involved after he and Kim were introduced by R 'n' B singer Ciara.
She added to MTV: "I'm just doing it for fun, and The-Dream wrote and produced the song, and Ciara talked me into doing it and said I should meet with him."
'Turn It Up' will also raise money for a good cause, with a portion of profits from the single going to a charity close to both Kim and the producer.
Kim added: "Dream's mother passed away of cancer and so did my dad, so half of the proceeds are going to a cancer organisation. It's just one song, and it's just for fun."
'Turn It Up' has no confirmed release date at present.
