Nicki Minaj's hit song 'Super Bass' is the highest ranking song by a female rapper in over a decade.
Nicki Minaj is continuing to make history. Her latest single, “Super Bass,” is not only Ms. Minaj’s highest charting, mainstream single, it recently became the highest ranking song by a female rapper on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in nearly a decade.Jacked from XXL
According to Billboard, “Super Bass” landed at the No. 3 spot on this week’s charts—making her the first femcee to get into the top three position, without the aid of another featured guest—since Missy Elliott’s 2002’s smash, “Work.”
“Nicki isn’t like any other female rapper,” says Cash Money co-founder/co-CEO Ronald “Slim” Williams, “We knew she had the goods when Lil Wayne signed her. She’s not a female rapper — she’s a pop star who happens to rap.”
There have only been eight rap songs in the Top 10 by rappers of the opposite sex in the entire charts history, with Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop” being the only track to make it to No. 1. While Foxy Brown and Lil’ Kim were never able to earn that distinction, Da Brat, Neneh Cherry and Lil Mama are on that short list, which also includes M.I.A.
In addition “Super Bass,” is one of the highest selling singles of the year. So far it has sold 1.9 million copies, making it the year’s 21st-biggest overall seller.
