Randy Travis Arrested After Drunken Fight with Girlfriend

Country super star Randy Travis was arrested in a Texas Church parking lot after a boozy showdown with his girlfriend.

Country singer, and former Marshville resident, Randy Travis is making headlines after he was arrested for being drunk in front of a Texas church.

According to jail records from Denton County in Texas, Travis was arrested by deputies on Monday morning for public intoxication.

Monday evening, WBTV obtained a statement Travis released through his Nashville-based PR firm about his arrest.

"I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl," Randy Travis said. "I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions."

According to the Sanger Police Department, officers were patrolling along South Fifth Street around 12:04 a.m. Monday morning when they noticed a black vehicle in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church with no lights on.

When officers approached the vehicle, a man - later identified as Randy Travis - told officers that he had just gotten into an argument with his girlfriend, a police report obtained by TMZ.com states, and he was trying to get back to his Tioga, Texas home.

The 52-year-old singer had an odor of alcohol coming from him, the report states, and officers notices an open bottle of wine in the passenger seat of the car. That's when he told officers he was Randy Travis, the report sates.

Travis' speech was slurred and officers reportedly had a hard time understanding what he was saying.

According to the report, Travis didn't have an identification on him and appeared not to know where he was located. He reportedly asked officers multiple times to take him home.

When he was asked to get out of his vehicle, Travis reportedly stumbled as he attempted to walk, the report states. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

He was booked, given a citation and was released a short time later.
