80s one hit wonder Toni Basil is suing her record label for back royalties on her hit song 'Mickey.'
Singer/actress Toni Basil is locked in a battle over the royalties for her worldwide smash hit Mickey, alleging she made just $3,000 (£1,875) from the track.
The former cheerleader enjoyed global fame in 1982 when the bubblegum pop classic topped charts around the world, but Basil is adamant she barely saw any of the profits.
The song was written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn but Basil alleges she came up with its catchy, cheerleader-style chant - and she's still "fighting" for more cash.
She tells British music magazine Q, "Mickey came from my days as a cheerleader. I wrote the chant, which is the bit of the song that's used on commercials, but I've barely made $3,000 from the song. The statute of limitations prevents me from saying too much, but I'm still fighting to get a fair share."Jacked from Contact Music

"statute of limitations" do not prevent you from saying anything. A court order can or fears that you might say something that can be used against you yes. Statute of limitations means you've waited too long to ask for what you're seeking damages for.
What she need to do is find them old contracts and have an attorney look at them before she wastes time and money.
