JoJo Sues Her Record Label

R&B singer JoJo is suing Blackground records to get out of her recording contract.

Barred by labels from releasing an album since 2006, the "Leave (Get Out)" singer is citing an NY State law that forbids minors from signing contracts lasting more than 7 years
R&B singer JoJo is ready to reclaim her career.
The 22-year-old singer—famous for mid-'00s breakup hits like "Too Little Too Late" and "Leave (Get Out)"—is suing to break contract with record labels Da Family and Blackground Records, which have blocked her from releasing an album since 2006's gold-certified The High Road.
According to NY Daily News, JoJo is suing to leave the seven-album contract she signed in 2004 at age 12, citing a New York State law barring minors from signing deals lasting more than seven years. JoJo now argues that the deal expired in March 2011.
In March 2013, JoJo revealed via an in-depth BuzzFeed report that she has presented Blackground Records with multiple incarnations of her third album—originally scheduled to release in 2007—but never received a response, which left her in legal limbo and unable to officially release her own music. BuzzFeed contributor Aylin Zafar put it best, writing, "Sometimes, it's not that an artist doesn't want to release music, it's that they can't. Over the past six years, however, JoJo has kept her online presence high with two mixtapes and a cover ofDrake's "Marvin's Room," which racked up 35 million views.
Hopefully JoJo will be granted her artistic freedom, team with a new label and release a record of sexy R&B-pop tracks like "Demonstrate" (below), a song she revealed online in 2012, but never officially went on sale.

When are artists going to get it. You're slaves to the music industry.

I hate that for Jojo. She is a really good singer, and I enjoyed some of her mixtapes. WOW a 7 album contract?
