Keeping Up with the Kardashians Facing the Axe

Plummeting ratings forcing E! to put Keeping Up with the Kardashians on the chopping block.
How much longer will the world be interested in Keeping Up With the Kardashians? The show looks to be on the brink of being cancelled as less and less people tune in, per RadarOnline.
Sunday's episode reached an all-time low of only 1.7m viewers, which is half of what the reality series was getting in its heyday of 2009 and far less than the 4.1m viewers that tuned in just after Kim Kardashian tied the knot with Kris Humphries.
Negative press seems to be playing a big part in the downfall of the once mighty reality show. The family has been plagued by scandal for years now, starting with skepticism over how real Kim's relationship with Humphries was.
Not only have Kris and Bruce Jenner have been fighting on the show nonstop and the Olympian is reportedly looking to hire a lawyer to end his marriage.
But Khloe has been facing a nightmare situation with reports that her estranged husband Lamar Odom is doing drugs and sleeping around with various women. Add to the mix that Kim hasn't been around much, having holed up for months after the June birth of her daughter North that she had with rapper Kanye West. When she does step out these days, like she did for fashion week in Paris, her appearance is ridiculed.
No wonder Sunday's episode 'Baby Shower Blues' tanked.
'This is looking really bad for the Kardashians and their show,' an industry insider told Radar. 'When Kendra Wilkinson‘s show dropped below 1m viewers they dropped it, so the Kardashian reality show is definitely in trouble.'
In April 2012 Kris hammered out an over $40m deal for three more seasons of the reality show she helped craft with Ryan Seacrest. That means E! is committed to running the Kardashian series for another two seasons. It's likely the reality wonder will be on the air till 2015, but the network might have the choice to pull the plug early.
As far as how spinoffs like Kim and Kourtney Take Miami, it's not clear what will happen to those. Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian are reportedly getting their own series, but even that may be in jeopardy. The 1.7m number is disturbing because so many other TV shows have been doing incredibly well lately. Breaking Bad saw over 10m viewers and The Big Bang Theory gets just north of 20m viewers.
If the Kardashian show is yanked, it could be bad news for the family's ancillary businesses as well. Their lucrative fashion deal with Sears and their sponsorship of nail polish company OPI could collapse. Those $100,000 payments for club appearances in Las Vegas could also dry up. Keeping Up With the Kardashians debuted in the fall of 2007.
