People magazine gave Jessica Simpson a wedding present she won’t soon forget.
Confidenti@l has learned the celebrity glossy shelled out $300,000 for exclusive rights to Simpson’s July 5 wedding to Eric Johnson at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, Calif. That ought to offset costs for the lavish affair, which Simpson told the magazine was “magical.”
A mag insider tells us that People also shelled out big money to score competitive exclusives on Drew Barrymore’s wedding to art consultant Will Kopelman and Kim Kardashian’s nuptials with Kris Humphries in 2011. For Simpson’s wedding, we’re told the magazine proposed, Simpson accepted and everyone lived happy ever after.
“There was no bidding war,” says a magazine insider. The only competition People worried about was Instagram. We’re told that guests at the wedding “were told no cell phones, no photographs.”
According to our insider, People wanted to make sure that photos of the bride in her wedding dress showed up first in its pages on newsstands midweek.
